I am UNusually early for work today. I got here by 8:30 am! Quite a feat, eh? Someone should congratulate me for it ^.^

I'm one of those people here who regularly receive those attendance notifier chuva.

Anyway, I know there's no good excuse for tardiness. But I also think some policies here need to be reviewed. The fact that we can already come up with a mailing list for the attendance notifier because of its regular recipients means that the attendance and tardiness policies are not so effective. So why continue putting up with them? Good thing my immediate boss believes performance outweighs getting a tardiness report. It's not at all affecting my performance, she said. Five minutes nga akong late, andito naman ako hanggang 7 or even 9 pm. I don't file OTs because I keep forgetting doing so (print ka pa kasi ng papel, pasa sa Department Head, pasa sa HR, pasa sa office admin - haaay wag na lang kaya?). AND I get my deliverables on time or even earlier.

Don't get me wrong here. Hindi pa naman ako rebelde at wala akong balak maging delingkwente. Whatever the case may be, these are office policies and therefore I should abide by them. The thing is, the people involved in making and implementing the policies are trying hard for the office to be "corporate" when it's not. This is the production arm of the company. They can't expect the people here to work on the rigid 9-6 shift. They demand people here to stay late or even go overnight whenever there's a project to finish (which is like every so often), but these people are also expected to go to work on or before 9 am. Then recently they started implementing stricter regulations about filing OTs. Masyado na raw kasing maraming nagfa-file ng OT. Now that's a big DUH!

Now we have a new marketing and sales director. and he doesn't seem to be following the 9-6 shift. Sabi nga ng isang officemate ko, kung ang iba daw nakakatanggap ng attendance notifier for being late, dapat si sales and marketing bosing may natatanggap namang attendance notifier na "You are early today. Congratulations!"

Come to think of it, maybe the DHs (department heads) can discuss the issue one time as in REALLY talk about it. It can be as easy as analyzing the needs and nature of work that each department has and then adjusting the schedule based on their work, right? As I see it, we can apply three shifts here: the admin can follow the 9-6 shift; those who are directly involved in production (editorial, creative, QA, IT) can have the flexi-schedule; then the sales people, who normally have sales calls or appointments outside the office can have another type of attendance scheme for themselves.

You don't need a genius to figure that out, right?
